Emissions Detection and Control
Using OGI cameras and flow sensors to identify emissions, quantify and rectify fugitive emissions, as part of your company's sustainability strategy.
Cimarron brings strong expertise and proficiency in Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) and emissions measurement tailored for the oil & natural gas industry. Our team is comprised of highly trained and certified technicians dedicated to delivering exceptional LDAR services, ensuring that customer facilities remain fully compliant with the latest regulations including NSPS 40 CFR Part 60 Subpart OOOOa. Our systematic Identification, Quantification, and Rectification (IQR) method includes:
- Identification and detection of vent gas or any fugitive emission sources of concern during a site visit using visual observations and OGI cameras
- Quantification of the vented emissions using direct measurement and modelling of flow profile of the Potential to Emit (PTE)
- Rectifying emissions by isolating and addressing leaks through equipment repair and/or implementing and installing emissions capture or destruction equipment
Fugitive Emissions
Cimarron has unrivaled experience and knowledge in Leak Detection (OGI) and measurement for the Oil & Gas Industry. We employ professionally certified technicians. Cimarron offers a Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program that will keep your facility in compliance with the new regulations. A part of our IQR service for NSPS OOOOa compliance includes first attempt to repair the source of fugitive emissions which gives the operator more time to finalize repairs if needed.
Reasons to Recover Vent Gas
- Recover valuable natural gas product
- Reduce air emissions
- Compliance with State and Federal regulations and air permits
- Reduce liabilities
- Drastically improve site health and safety
Direct Measurement Services
Direct Measurement Services of vent gas yields quantitative data on the flowrate and chemical makeup of the gas. This data is used to determine vent gas monetary value and mass flowrate (lbs/hr). Direct measurement data is input for sizing and selection for the type of emissions control that best fits the application.
Leak Detection and Repair Services (LDAR)
Cimarron offers a Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) program that will keep your facility in compliance with the new regulations. Cimarron’s LDAR survey services uses multiple certified Optical Gas Imaging (OGI) cameras, e.g. FLIR GF series. We have the manpower to send multiple survey teams out to survey your affected facilities. All of Cimarron’s LDAR team members are trained to make first attempt repairs at customer request – thus reducing your overall cost and the need to re-survey the repaired items.
The leaks and repairs will be documented and recorded in the Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) report that is generated at the end of the day. We aim to provide a short report turnaround (ideally – less than 24 hours). We will not schedule more survey work in a single day than the number of reports we can finish that day and upload to the IQR Web Application.
Cimarron’s LDAR program can help you successfully complete your NSPS 40 CFR Part 60 Subpart OOOOa §60.5397a requirements. Our environmental specialist is always available to assist our customers through the new regulations and reporting requirements.
Cimarron can assist with Monitoring Plans as per §60.5397a if not currently established.
Direct Measurement Services (DM)
- Recover valuable natural gas product
- Reduce air emissions
- Compliance with State and Federal regulations and air permits
- Reduce liabilities
- Drastically improve site health and safety
- Identification and detection of vent gas or any fugitive emission sources of concern during a site visit. This service uses visual observations and optical gas imaging (OGI) camera.
- Quantification of the vented emissions using direct measurement which is a quantitative emission leak rate measurement. Each emission source is evaluated and the proper measurement device is selected to accurately measure the volume of hydrocarbon gas being emitted.
- Rectifying emissions by recovering the vent gas, combusting the vent gas or fixing leaks.
Direct measurement of vent gas yields quantitative data on the flowrate and chemical makeup of the gas. This data is used to determine vent gas monetary value and mass flowrate (lbs/hr). Direct measurement data is input for sizing and selection for the type of emissions control that best fits the application.
Reasons to Recover Vent Gas
Vent gas from storage tanks contain natural gas that has a higher energy content (BTU/SCF) than separator/sales gas. Based on the energy content, vent gas with BTU values of 1500 BTU/SCF to 2500 BTU/SCF can have a monetary value of 1.5 to 2.5 times the value of a typical pipeline natural gas that contains around 1000 BTU/SCF. Sending vent gas to the sales pipeline shortens the payout time for the VRU.
Oil and gas production processes result in the venting of a portion of the produced natural gas. Vent gas management is a continuing issue for oil and gas operators. Companies must balance permitting requirements, regulatory compliance and corporate responsibility to minimize pollution, waste and liabilities. Recovery of the vent gas increases revenue to the facility while ensuring gas is NOT released to the atmosphere. This makes an understanding of vent gas and a practical management strategy important.
Using a systematic method to reduce venting emissions ensures greater success. The following is Cimarron’s IQR-proven method to reduce venting emissions from an oil and gas facility.
Quantification of fugitive emissions can be a challenge at times. Our state of the art Flow Measurement System (FMS) was developed for exactly this purpose. Our typical measurement duration is 24 hours in order to capture a full day of data as shown in the graph below.

This data is taken at short time intervals to create a flow profile of the Potential to Emit (PTE). The control equipment is very versatile, however we would prefer to operate in the midrange of the equipment for equipment longevity and reliability.
All of the data gathered during the site visit aids in the determination of size and type of control equipment. A complete IQR report including videos and graphical data will be uploaded to the IQR Web Application.
Direct Inspection and Maintenance Services (DI&M)
- Identify emission sources
- Make repairs
- Verify emission sources are repaired.
Direct Inspection and Maintenance (DI&M) services utilizes our expert knowledge in production equipment operation and the knowledge of fugitive emissions. Each of our professional service technicians are equipped with the most advanced detection technology in order to:
All of our technicians are experienced and factory-trained to work on and setup and evaluate functionality of hatches and vent valves.
Our technicians are experienced in the installation and setup of Cimarron’s equipment (VRU, VCU, VRT and our UWS Hatch Sense product line). If you would prefer to use roustabout crews and or construction crews you currently use, we can consult with these crews to ensure that all the equipment is installed correctly and works to create a ZERO emission site.
